Showing your rabbit is very fun - whether you show with the American Rabbit Breeders Association or at your county fair. It is a rewarding experience, whether you walk away with a trophy or not. You get to meet other rabbit lovers, and see how your rabbit compares to its breed standard.

Joining ARBA
The first thing any rabbit breeder should do is join the American Rabbit Breeder's Association. Not only does this make you eligible to compete in shows, but you also get a bi-monthly magazine, a helpful book on raising rabbits, and a breeders' directory. Well worth the minimal membership fee! Preparation For Show Day

First of all, you have to keep your rabbit groomed - cutting mats out of him a week before the show isn't going to work, because that will ruin his coat.

About a week before show day, flip your rabbit over and check for stains on the feet or skirt. Use a little water to get this out, or on a white rabbit, hydrogen peroxide. This is a good time to also make sure his toenails are a good length - the judge will appreciate it!

Things to Take With You

This is where I generally fall down on the job -something always gets left at home! Remember to bring grooming supplies, water cups and hay for a long show, and your ARBA card. Some other good things to have would be your pedigree book, a folding chair, and a book....show day is fun, but can be very LONG. And, of course, don't forget the rabbits. I like to always have an extra carrier hole or two - you never know when you will find a rabbit you just have to have!
